Middle Input Channel Section / Middle Master Section
Each input channel bucket and the Ark master section can host
- 16 Octa modules
- 16 500-series modules
- 16 51x modules
Or a combination of these
Octa slots are compatible with 500, 51x and Octa modules
None of these slots are “tied” to the channels.
Actually the slots are totally independent from the rest of the console.
They have their own I/O connectors on the back panel, and even have their own power supply.
Think of it as two 8-slot racks which are installed in each of the buckets of the Ark.
This allows full flexibility, since you can use any Octa, 500 or 51x module (or chain of modules) on any channel.
Our IPocta board has 8 slots for Octa, 51x or 500 modules.
Multiple IPocta boards can be installed in the Ark console.
Alternatively, the IP508 board can be installed.
The IP508 board only supports 500 series modules
What is the advantage of using Octa slots or modules?
Octa modules run on higher voltage than standard 500 modules (+/- 24V instead of +/- 16V).
As a result, Octa modules have an extra 4dB of headroom, resulting in a better signal-to-noise ratio and higher dynamic range.
The IPocta board has 8 Octa slots.
Octa slots use 18-pin EDAC connectors, with +/- 16V and +/- 24V rails
Power regulators and filters for each voltage rail are fitted right next to each slot, so each module gets the cleanest and best power, resulting in much improved sound quality.
Any 500, 51x or Octa module will sound better when used in Octa slots or Octa rack.
(We understand that this may sound strange, but it really is a tested and proven fact)
What if I only plan to use 500 modules?
You can either use the IPocta board, and get the most out of your 500 module.
Or do some small savings and get the IP508 board which has a shared power supply.
The Ark is the only console which offers support for all these different modules.
